The Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island was founded in 1900 when 18 independent insurance agents from various cities and towns met in downtown Providence and formed the Rhode Island Association of Local Fire Insurance Agents. In 1914 the name changed to Rhode Island Association of Insurance Agents to allow casualty agents membership. The mission of IIARI is to enhance the competitive position and to satisfy the business, professional, educational and political needs of the Independent Insurance Agency Members.
