The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Oregon (IIABO), chartered in 1928 as the “Independent Insurance Agents Union” and is one of the oldest trade associations in the state. Approximately 260 agencies, branches, and subsidiaries – operated by over 2,000 agents, brokers, and their employees – make the IIABO the largest insurance trade association in Oregon. These agents provide insurance for millions of Oregonians. The key to an “independent” agent is choice of carrier, customized products and consumer advocacy. The IIABO is the Oregon arm of the Independent Insurance Agents of America (IIABA), also called the “Big I”. Now in its second century, IIABA represents a network of over 300,000 agents and their employees, with state organizations in all fifty states. From their headquarters in Alexandria, VA, the national association administers an enormous array of products and services to help member agencies compete in today’s ever evolving insurance marketplace. IIABA also maintains an office on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., that is consistently ranked among the top lobby organizations in the country for it’s unrelenting advocacy on insurance issues.
