Risk Strategies Acquires Krauter & Company
Expands key practice with addition of brokerage focused on risk management and liability needs of private equity funds and portfolio companies
BOSTON — Risk Strategies, a privately held, rapidly growing national insurance brokerage and risk management firm, announced the acquisition of Krauter & Company LLC. Terms of the deal remain confidential.
Founded in 2004 and headquartered in New York City, Krauter & Company counts more than 185 private equity firms and thousands of portfolio companies among its client base. The company’s staff, numbering over 70 nationally and averaging over 25 years in the insurance business, is well known for its experience, depth, and proficiency in working with private equity firms.
“Private equity is a fast-paced, high stakes world where specialty knowledge is key to keeping deals on track and ensuring they work out as expected,” said Mike Christian, founder and CEO of Risk Strategies. “Krauter & Company has earned a top-tier reputation in this regard and its approach and expertise are well-aligned with Risk Strategies’ client focus and culture.”
Krauter & Company is renowned as a pioneer in its work for private equity funds, with the company principals having designed and placed the first private equity portfolio program in 1988 for a top-tier private equity firm. The company today continues to lead the industry in the design and placement of tailored transactional risk products, such as Reps and Warranties coverage and Tax Opinion Insurance. The firm also excels at deep M&A due diligence, employee benefits analysis, and a keen focus on total cost of risk for its PE clients.
“I’ve watched Risk Strategies grow since Mike Christian founded it in 1997,” said Neil Krauter, founder of Krauter & Company. “His focus on building an experts-driven, highly collaborative firm meshes perfectly with my understanding of what clients need and want. Joining Risk Strategies creates a powerful combination with unmatched capability and benefit to clients and their portfolio companies.”
Prior to starting K&C, Neil worked at Lloyd’s of London, Marsh, and AON, where he built out and managed the AON Mergers & Acquisitions Group. Active in the private equity community, he launched the Private Equity Principal Group in 2014, which currently has over 130 members, and also serves on the board of the Private Equity CFO Association (PECFOA).
In addition to working with private equity clients, Krauter & Company also engages with large, nationally recognized companies across a wide variety of industries including accounting, airlines, staffing, and restaurants.
Beyond its New York City headquarters, Krauter & Company maintains eight additional offices throughout the United States, including Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, and Boston. Many K&C employees have won industry awards including Risk & Insurance’s Power Broker, Business Insurance’s Women to Watch, and have been named to carrier Producer Councils.
