Dean & Draper Pursues Growth, Acquires Esteemed John S. Dunn & Son Insurance Agency
HOUSTON — Despite the challenging economic climate, Dean & Draper Insurance Agency, LP is closing out 2010 with a flourish by completing the formal agreement to acquire substantially all the assets of John S. Dunn & Son, Inc., one of Houston’s oldest and most respected insurance agencies. The formal agreement takes effect Nov. 1.
For Dean & Draper, the acquisition translates to an increase in business volume as well as an eight percent increase in staff for the agency. Dean & Draper currently represents more than 250 insurance companies, specializing in personal and commercial insurance in addition to risk management and employee benefits.
“The Dunn family wanted a company that has the integrity and stability to take good care of their customers and their employees, which is why they turned to us,” said Bob Dean, Dean & Draper’s president and chief executive officer. “By acquiring the Dunn agency, we continue our ongoing strategy for growth and exceptional service.”
A provider of top-quality commercial and personal property/casualty insurance coverage, and employee benefits solutions, Dean & Draper focuses on identifying the best options for its clients by leveraging its long-standing relationships with quality insurance companies.
John S. Dunn & Son, Inc. began in Houston in 1938 and possesses solid commercial and personal lines accounts. When the Dunn family decided to sell the business earlier this year, they contacted Dean & Draper because of the similarities in business values and commitment to customer service.
Having owned both insurance and mortgage banking companies in the Houston area, the Dunn family is as well known for its philanthropy as it is for its longevity in business. The John S. Dunn foundation is responsible for many important developments in the Houston area including Life Flight, Chapels at M.D. Anderson and Hermann Hospitals, Dunn Laboratories at M.D. Anderson, the Dunn Towers at Methodist and The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research at Memorial Hermann.
Recently, Dean & Draper made the prestigious Inc. 5000 list. The list is an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The ranking was the result of its 12 percent growth rate during the three-year period from 2006-2009 with last year’s sales totaling $112 million. Dean & Draper ranked #66 among the insurance industry nationwide.
