Atlanta, GA – Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens announced that a Pierce County insurance agent has been arrested for allegedly committing insurance fraud. Dana Larson Bowen, 52, of Blackshear, Ga., was charged this morning with twenty‐eight counts of insurance fraud for allegedly misappropriating her customer’s insurance premium payments for personal use.
“In over seven years as Georgia’s Insurance Commissioner, I’ve seen this type of fraud many times,” Hudgens said. “The outcome is always the same. Whenever agents are tempted to keep the premium money, they should realize that sooner or later they’re going to get caught.”
State Fraud Investigators found that between August 2016 and June 2017 Bowen accepted more than $250,000 in premiums payments from her clients to obtain workers’ compensation, general liability, and commercial insurance coverage. Evidence shows that on multiple occasions, Bowen failed to forward all
the premium to the insurance company, leaving many of her clients without valid coverage, Hudgens added. Individuals victimized by Bowen operated various types of businesses in Bacon, Pierce, and Ware Counties.
Hudgens’ Legal Division has taken enforcement action to revoke Bowen’s license to transact any insurance business in Georgia. Fraud Investigators are asking anyone that purchased insurance from Bowen and find they do not have legitimate coverage to contact the Department’s Consumer Hotline at 800‐656‐2298.
Bowen, a licensed agent in Georgia since 1988, owns and operates Management South Agency, 3517 US Highway 84, in Blackshear.
Insurance fraud is a felony with a penalty of two to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
