OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma insurance industry is mourning the loss of Tulsa agency founder Dave Bryant Sr. Bryant died Dec. 20 after complications from a stroke. A memorial service will be held Jan. 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bryant family during this difficult time,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. “Bryant was well-known throughout the state for his long career and dedication to educational training for agents. He will be missed.”
Bryant started his career with Farmers Insurance in 1968 by opening the Dave Bryant Agency of Tulsa. He served in that role until 1984 when he became a district manager for Farmers. He received many honors with Farmers including the President’s Council designation, both as an agent and as a district manager. Additionally, he served as an officer for the Farmers Political Action Committee and represented them at the legislative level. As a board member of Farmers University, Bryant was instrumental in the training of agents nationwide.
“We’re very sorry to hear of Dave’s passing,” said Jeff Dailey, chief executive officer at Farmers Insurance. “Dave was a longtime influential leader and we will miss him. Our thoughts are with his family during this time.”
Bryant graduated from Tulsa University with a bachelor’s degree in history and religion and a master’s degree in education and psychology before receiving his doctorate of divinity from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He finalized his education with a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Illinois. Bryant was past president of the Southeast Rotary Club and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he taught adult classes over the years.
The family asks that any memorial donations be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges or Methodist Manor.
